People across the globe are getting thinner thanks to GLP-1s like Ozempic, and it’s impacting a variety of industries in different ways. Snack companies are turning to healthier options, Starbucks is adding protein to its drinks and a new study shows airlines could be a big winner as well. A study published last week by financial analyst firm Jefferies suggests the U.S.’s four largest carriers could save as much as $580 million per year in fuel as a result of passengers losing weight. Fuel costs make up about 20% of airlines’ annual expenses, so this drop in costs could have an outsized impact on their bottom lines in the coming years.
