Power sports couple Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe have strongly denounced the International Olympic Committee’s decision to ban trans athletes. On their A Touch More podcast, Rapinoe called it “a horrible rule. I’m sickened by it. We’re subjecting women to this really invasive testing.” Bird said it was “fear-mongering,” adding, “Can we please stop obsessing over trans people and focus our time, energy and resources into real problems women’s sports face?” Bird notes that no trans women competed in the Paris Olympics, while one competed in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics and didn’t win a medal. The podcast was recorded on March 31, the Trans Day of Visibility, and dropped on April 2. The discussion begins at the 68-minute mark near the end of the podcast.
