The Walt Disney Co. has agreed to settle a $43.25 million lawsuit alleging that it underpaid women employees. The suit, filed in 2019 by 10 women employees, alleged that the company had violated California’s Equal Pay Act. In one instance, a Disney employee whose base salary was about $110,000 raised the issue of unfair pay with the company’s HR department, noting that each of the six men holding the same title had a “much higher” base salary. The suit alleges that Disney responded by saying her pay “was not due to her gender.” The settlement applies to women who worked in a “covered position” for the company in California between April 1, 2015, and Dec. 28, 2024.
