Recruiting firm WorkSmart Staffing in Greenville, South Carolina, is facing a lawsuit from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for allegedly adhering to a client’s request to refer only male candidates and exclude women applicants. The lawsuit claims that WorkSmart recruited qualified women, but its client, recycling center TCI of Alabama, “informed (WorkSmart) that it would only accept males to work in its laborer positions” because of the physical nature of the job. Among other items, the EEOC seeks to compel the staffing firm to provide compensation to potential women laborer employees for past and future losses.
