The FDA is taking steps toward requiring clearer disclosures when packaged foods contain gluten, including grains like rye and barley that aren’t currently on the U.S. list of major allergens. The agency has issued a broad request for data on adverse reactions, cross-contamination, and how often companies already disclose gluten, saying serious data gaps have slowed regulation. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. framed the move as part of a push for “radical transparency” in food labeling, and The Celiac Disease Foundation called the request “an important first step.”
