The Trump administration has launched an investigation into Smith College over its policy of admitting transgender women. The U.S. Department of Education alleges the Massachusetts-based all-women’s college, which celebrated its 150th anniversary last year, may be in violation of Title IX by allowing biological males into “women’s intimate spaces.” Allowing biological males into spaces designed for women raises serious concerns about privacy, fairness, and compliance under federal law,” Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey says. The college says on its website that it “is committed to meeting its obligations under Title IX and maintaining an environment that is free of sex discrimination, including harassment.”
