Gatorade’s “The Science of Her Sweat Study” has released its first findings, noting that 43% of more than 500 women athletes across basketball, ice hockey, soccer and other activities show up to workouts already dehydrated. More than half don’t consume enough carbs during exercise. The Gatorade Sports Science Institute first announced the initiative last fall to address different sweat patterns women have. “The data is clear,” says Dr. Kimberly Stein, PhD, senior principal scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. “Being armed with this data will help us conduct deeper, more targeted research.” Women are invited to join the research by taking this “Female Athlete Hydration Survey” via the Gatorade app.
