Today is Giving Tuesday, an international initiative on six continents created in 2012 to unleash “the power of radical generosity around the world.” Last year, 12.9 million people across the United States donated goods, while another 9.2 million volunteered. The Giving Tuesday organization says many companies use the day to kick off their year-end giving campaigns, as multiple studies show that employees want their employers to create seamless opportunities for both giving and volunteering. One, from nonprofit Mission Edge, notes that corporate volunteerism is more important than ever because it “connects businesses with their communities, strengthens employee engagement and supports long-term company goals.”
