Hackers working for an Asian government successfully compromised “government and critical infrastructure” operations across 37 countries the past year. A report from Palo Alto Networks, “The Shadow Campaigns: Uncovering Global Espionage,” says most of the countries in the world, including the United States, were targeted. In what the analysis calls “perhaps the most pronounced reconnaissance,” at least 200 IP addresses belonging to the government of Honduras were targeted last Oct. 31, just 30 days prior to the national election, “in which both candidates signaled openness to restoring diplomatic relations with Taiwan.” The report didn’t name the country where the hackers originated.
