Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott just keeps on giving to historically Black colleges and universities. Howard University in Washington, D.C., received $80 million, and Atlanta-based women’s institution Spelman College said it had received an unrestricted $38 million gift. Howard officials note that $17 million will go toward its school of medicine, while Spelman will use the money to expand financial aid and invest in state-of-the-art technology infrastructure. In September, Scott pledged $70 million to the United Negro College Fund as part of its $1 billion capital campaign. Forbes notes that Scott has donated nearly $900 million to HBCUs in the past five years.
