No state received an “A” grade for maternal mental health care in 2026, with the United States as a whole earning a “C.” The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health says 11 states received B grades while 15 states were given “Ds”, though the grades have improved each of the four years since the report launched. The report measured 27 metrics, including screening and detection, providers and treatment, policies and payment and parental support, which includes family leave and childcare policies. No state has ever received an A grade since the report launched in 2023.
