A recent study published in The Lancet found that women are more likely than men to wait longer for an autoimmune disease diagnosis. Women were more likely to have multiple doctor’s visits and a higher probability of having their symptoms attributed to psychiatric issues. The study also found that women were more likely to be misdiagnosed with a mental health condition. Future research will look at ways to reduce these delays in diagnosis.
