Online grocery sales skyrocketed 29% in November year over year to $12.3 billion across the United States. A Mercatus Brick Meets Click report notes that both order frequency and spending rates increased, adding that ship-to-home orders posted the strongest gains “aided by the rollout of Amazon’s same-day fresh grocery service.” Pickup also tallied double-digit growth. The online share of total grocery spending is now 17%. “Order frequency has steadily grown for a year and spending remains resilient,” Brick Meets Click Partner David Bishop says. “E-grocery is evolving from just a convenient option to the preferred way to get groceries for many."
