Paris, considered the fashion capital of the world, apparently isn’t keen on Chinese retailer Shein opening its first boutique there. The New York Times reports that Shein's plan to open its first boutique in Paris has sparked protests over concerns about cheap labor, environmental impact and human rights. “Shein goes against our beliefs,” one protestor is quoted as saying. An online petition seeking to prevent the Chinese e-commerce giant from opening in a prominent location garnered almost 100,000 signatures in one week. Shein plans to open the store Nov. 1.
