Paris to investigate removal of Eiffel Tower female workers during delegation visit

Paris authorities will investigate an incident in which female employees at the Eiffel Tower were taken off duty during a private visit by a Hindu religious group. Over the weekend, tower management asked female employees to leave their places and replaced them with men during the visit of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha Hindu group, also known as BAPS, leading to a union strike in protest and the closure of the monument on Monday. BAPS monks are prohibited from having contact with women, but other members of the group are not. The group issued an apology Monday, while Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire called for an investigation.
