At least 20 Planned Parenthood Centers have closed since President Trump signed the “defund” provision into law July 4. All told, about 50 have closed in 2025. Planned Parenthood’s Defund Impact Report, published in November, notes that 64% of centers are in rural or medically underserved areas, or areas suffering from a shortage of medical professionals. Prior to the defund law (which took effect in September), Planned Parenthood health centers were reimbursed through Medicaid, and almost half of all visits to health centers were from patients who relied on Medicaid to cover the cost of care.
