The WNBA is reportedly considering buying back the 16% equity stake it sold for $75 million back in 2022 when it was in desperate need of capital. Front Office Sports says the original investors, which include former NBA star Pau Gasol, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Nike would earn back their investment “several times over” if the league — which declined comment — decides to proceed. “Team valuations have ballooned since,” the article notes, adding that the WNBA has added three teams since then that had to pay $250 million apiece to join the league and plans to add three more by 2030.
