The Lupus Research Alliance has awarded more than $2 million in funding to three researchers through its 2026 Mechanistic Clinical Award program for research on lifestyle intervention. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease where immune cells attack organs. Women account for 90% of lupus cases and are most often diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 45. Some of the lifestyle interventions include ginger supplementation and exercise and include an online health program. "Lifestyle interventions hold great promise for improving outcomes in lupus, but research in this area remains chronically underfunded," says Kari Fischer, PhD, scientific program officer at the Lupus Research Alliance.
