With the help of a French bulldog named Bougie, Texas State University researchers are studying whether having a resident dog in a women’s substance-use treatment center could strengthen patients’ interpersonal connections, well-being, and recovery. Currently being conducted at The Pearl Wellness for Women in Elgin, Texas, the study of this human-animal bond is still in its early stages. Meet Bougie if you want to start your day with a smile.
