This was only a matter of time: A new app plans to become the first sportsbook dedicated exclusively to women’s sports. Rival says, “betting is coming soon” and will cover everything from the WNBA to the LPGA to cricket, rugby, MMA/boxing and motorsports. Founder Kelly DiPaola writes on the company’s website that the explosive growth in women’s sports led to the app. “For years, sportsbooks have treated women’s sports like a footnote,” she says. “Minimal markets. No innovation, No spotlight. The culture is shifting, but the infrastructure hasn’t caught up.” The Gist reports that Rival plans to be active in Colorado, New Jersey and Pennsylvania next year. McKinsey & Co. says women’s sports could generate at least $2.5 billion in the U.S. by 2030, a 250% increase from 2024.
