A new study finds that drinking too much coffee could affect bone health in older women. Researchers at Flinders University followed nearly 10,000 women ages 65 and older for an entire decade and found that those who drank more than five cups of coffee a day had lower bone density. Tea consumption, on the other hand, was associated with higher hip bone density. Moderate coffee intake (2-3 cups daily) showed no negative effects. Osteoporosis affects roughly one in three women over age 50 and is responsible for millions of fractures each year. Researchers say a daily cup of tea could be a small step towards stronger bones.
