Tributes pour in for Gloria Steinem

Gloria Steinem’s death earlier this week brought an outpouring of tributes praising her legacy as an icon of the feminist movement. Among her many accomplishments was the creation of feminist publication Ms. Magazine in 1972, a magazine The New York Times called the first glossy national publication “created, owned and run entirely by women.”  Steinem co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus in 1971 and, according to Reuters, also created the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the Women’s Media Center, Voters for Choice and the Ms. Foundation for Women. President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. Steinem was 92. No cause of death was given.
