Soon, women will have their own national tournament, which will bring together women’s soccer clubs from different divisions to compete for one championship and a prize of over $1.5 million. While the equivalent men’s payout amounts to $16 million, supporters of the new initiative say this is a step toward growing women’s soccer in the nation, giving women’s teams more opportunities to compete at a higher level and with exposure to a larger audience.
