The International Criminal Court this week unsealed warrants for four Taliban leaders alleging they are criminally responsible for ordering, inducing or soliciting crimes against humanity in Afghanistan. The warrants reference the persecution of women and girls who do not conform to the Taliban’s strict gender policies, including bans on women singing in public, leaving home without a male guardian and making it illegal for girls to go to school. The judges found the Taliban’s policies had resulted in the murder, imprisonment, torture, rape and disappearance of Afghan women and girls.
