The Bay Area, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Seattle are the three best cities for women’s sports. The Athletic published the first of what it says will become an annual ranking, predicting that the surging momentum in women’s sports will lead to significant changes on the list in coming years. The ranking analyzed the number of pro teams, strength of NCAA programs, women-themed sports bars, local celebrity athletes and other metrics. The Bay Area, for instance, is the land of soccer legend Brandi Chastain and figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, while Seattle is home to power couple Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe. The Athletic says intangible “vibes” help make sports cities great for women, calling the entire process of compiling the list “fascinating.”
