Women still do significantly more housework than men, spend more time on personal finances, take on greater caregiving responsibilities and devote more time to personal grooming. Pew Research Center analyzed the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Time Use Survey and also found that women watch much less TV, have less “down time” and don’t exercise as much as men. The data analyzed a dozen activities by gender and age group, with the most lopsided finding being housework: Women spend on average two hours, 19 minutes every day on household chores, compared to just one hour and 34 minutes for men. In every age group (20s through 70s) women do a lot more housework.
