Women in the health care and social assistance fields are powering the U.S. job market, accounting for more than 38% of the 3.5 million jobs added the past two years. Women account for almost 80% of all employees in those two fields. More than 44% of physicians are now women, up from 37% a decade ago. Hiring Lab also found that health-care related job postings are 32% higher than pre-pandemic levels and considerably higher than other sectors. “Interestingly, over the past two years, there has been a strong correlation between the percentage of female employees in a given professional sector and the payroll employment growth rate,” the report notes. “In general, sectors with higher percentages of female employees have seen higher growth rates, the one exception being the construction sector.”
