Georgia on Tuesday elected the first-ever Black female governor and New Mexico elected the first-ever Native American governor. Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms defeated Republican Rick Jackson to take the governorship in Georgia, a state shaped by slavery and segregation. In New Mexico, Democrat Deb Haaland, a member of Laguna Pueblo, beat out Republican Gregg Hull to become the governor. Women across the country won big, including Democrat Gina Hinojosa, who beat out Republican Greg Abbott to take the Texas governor’s race and Democrat Dr. Amy Acton, who beat Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio.
