Bailey Renger had what she calls a “possibly life-changing” diagnosis in her early 20s and was surprised that medical imaging couldn’t determine whether she had cancer. Today, at 26, she founded and leads BeSound, a San Francisco-based company that just secured $6.8 million in seed funding to improve mammography for women with dense breast tissue. The company notes that women over the age of 40 with dense breasts have an increased risk for breast cancer. BeSound says its non-invasive scan can reduce false positive breast biopsies by up to 80%. Its first location will launch in Los Angeles this fall.
