ChatGPT, the first public chatbot to debut back in 2022, is by far the most popular, with 44% of Americans saying they use it. Gemini is second at 24%, followed by Copilot and Meta AI. A Pew Research Center survey notes that half of adults now use chatbots, a substantial increase from just two years ago. One in four use a chatbot every day. Searching for information and work-related tasks are the most common uses. Only 4% use chatbots for companionship and only 10% use them for emotional support. “But Americans, including younger adults, are deeply skeptical of AI,” Pew says, with a majority of respondents saying that AI is advancing too quickly and will put their personal information at risk.
