ChatGPT may be on its way to replacing the family doctor. Open AI, in rolling out its new “health intelligence upgrade,” says its GPT-5.5 Instant model outperformed human physicians in a recent study on accuracy and communication. The company asked physicians themselves to write responses for health conversations without using AI, while a separate panel of physicians reviewed the answers and compared them with AI. Across 3,500 reviewed responses, GPT-5.5 Instant, which is free to use, “had fewer instances of missing red flags or referral to care.” OpenAI says more than 230 million people turn to the platform every week with health and wellness questions.
