Colorado joins other states in mandating access to abortion medication on college campuses

Colorado has become the latest state to require public colleges and universities to provide access to abortion medication. Stateline reports that California, Illinois, Massachusetts and New York also guarantee access, noting that all five states have worked to expand abortion access in the past several years, even prior to the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling restricting access. The new law takes effect Aug. 1, 2027, and requires student health centers to provide abortion medication or, if a campus doesn’t have an on-site prescription outlet, to use an off-campus provider. Colorado voters two years ago voted to allow abortion care.
