A former flight attendant has sued Alaska Airlines, alleging she was wrongfully terminated days before the end of her probationary period for filming a 15-second TikTok video of herself in uniform while on a grounded plane. Janelle Diala, an Asian American and African American woman, alleges that other flight attendants had posted dances to social media without suffering consequences. She told Alaska officials that she posted the video “as an expression of joy” because her probationary period was ending, that she had not intended to represent the company and had not included an Alaska hashtag. She accused the airline of discrimination based on sex and race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
