Family-oriented coworking spaces with onsite childcare are gaining popularity as young working parents seek to balance careers and children. One company that plans to open in Tacoma, Washington, this fall called SheWorks says its space will be “shaped by the needs of women, mothers and families” and eventually will even have an onsite gym. Nonprofit New America calls the child-care industry “a messy market failure,” noting that parent-friendly coworking spaces first surged in popularity during the pandemic and “are evolving into neighborhood service hubs.” The U.S. has almost 8,500 total coworking spaces, but New America calls family-type spaces a niche, emerging market.
