After a one-year spike, women’s representation among streaming series creators has “plummeted,” according to The Boxed In project, an annual survey by the Center for the Study of Women in Television & Film at San Diego State University. The percentage of women creating original U.S. programs on streaming services rose from 27% in 2023-2024 to 36% in 2024-2025. In 2025-2026, that fell back to 24%. The percentage of women creating broadcast programs also fell year over year, but not as dramatically, going from 20% in 2024-2025 to 19% in 2025-2026. Looking at both broadcast and streaming platforms together, women made up 22% of creators in 2025-2026, lower than it was in 2017-2018.
