Two former Amazon employees have filed a lawsuit in federal court in Seattle accusing the company of systemic gender discrimination in pay and promotions. Gayatri Srinivas and Amy Cisneroz allege that Amazon consistently paid women less than men for “substantially” similar work despite similar qualifications and tenure, citing the company’s internal job-classification system that steers women into lower-paying roles and non-tech job categories. “As a direct result of assigning women to non-‘tech’-labeled roles, Amazon also limits female employees’ career advancement opportunities,” the suit says.” The lawsuit seeks back pay, damages and changes to company practices. The Seattle Times notes that the suit is “remarkably similar” to another filed in 2023.
