Women tend to lose more weight using GLP-1 drugs than men, with researchers suggesting that the medications may work more effectively in women because of their ability to interact with estrogens. JAMA reports that women on average lost 11% of their weight compared to 7% for men. “The findings underscore the importance of examining GLP-1 drug efficacy for different groups,” JAMA says, “and may have clinical implications for individuals seeking treatment for obesity or diabetes.” The study found, however, that the medications had more consistent effects across race, ethnicity and BMI.
