Komen launches fall schedule at ‘critical moment in fight against breast cancer’

Breast cancer organization Susan B. Komen has released its fall calendar of fundraising events across the county during what it calls “a critical moment in the history of the fight against breast cancer.” The Dallas-based, organization, which organizes Race for the Cure, More Than Pink Walk and other events, notes that one in eight U.S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, with Black women facing a nearly 40% higher mortality rate. Komen is launching a new campaign called Breast Honesty that encourages people to have open conversations about breast health. “Our determination to end breast cancer death is unwavering because we know it’s possible,” says Victoria Smart, Komen’s senior vice president of mission. “With continued investment in science, equitable access to quality care and collective action, we can save more lives.”
