Kwanza Jones has become the first Black female majority owner of a Major League Baseball franchise as she and her husband, José E. Feliciano, were approved by Major League Baseball owners unanimously earlier this week as the new owners of the San Diego Padres. NBC affiliate 7 San Diego reports that “Jones is breaking MLB color and gender barriers” as both first Black majority owner and Black female majority owner. Feliciano was born in Puerto Rico and becomes the second Latino principal owner in baseball. The other is Arte Moreno of the Los Angeles Angels. Jones and Feliciano are longtime business partners and co-founders of the Kwanza Jones and José E. Feliciano Initiative, a private office established in 2014.
