About 75 sex workers at Sheri’s Ranch in Nevada are seeking to become the first unionized brothel workforce in the United States. The new United Brothel Workers Union wants the same protections given to the state’s casino workers, including job safety, better working conditions and future pay protections. The union was formed under Communications Workers of America Local 9413. The union says Sheri’s Ranch “must step into a modern, pro-worker future,” and says it is ready to negotiate in good faith. “No employer is entitled to a slice of my entire community I’ve personally spent years building because I work there,” sex worker Adalind Gray said. Brothels are legal in 10 rural Nevada counties.
