MacKenzie Scott increases giving to more than $7B this year

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott says she has donated $7.16 billion to nonprofits across the world this year. Scott, writing on her Yield Giving website, notes that more than 70% of Americans gave both money and labor to people they know, and half reported doing the same for strangers. “The multiplier effect on the social value of every one of these forms of benevolent contribution is huge,” she writes. CNN reports that the total is a significant increase in her annual giving, as she gave $2.6 billion last year. As previously reported, Scott has given $900 million to Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the past five years alone.
