A new book by a longtime health care executive charts a path forward for women interested in becoming leaders. The Women’s Guide to Healthcare Leadership: They Why and The How, written by Dr. Patricia A. Gabow, former CEO of Denver Health for 20 years, notes that “American health care urgently needs more women in leadership, not as a matter of fairness alone, but because the evidence shows women leaders produce better outcomes.” Published by the American Association for Physician Leadership, the book also examines gender bias, the mother penalty and pay inequity. It also features in-depth interviews from 10 women health care leaders on their triumphs and challenges.
