Nursing home employment is on the rise and turnover rates are declining. The American Health Care Association says the sector gained 40,700 jobs last year, noting that 62% of providers say their overall workforce situation is improving. Turnover, long an issue, has been trending downward since 2022, though the nursing home workforce is still below pre-pandemic levels and 90% of providers say staff recruitment remains challenging. The group urges providers and policymakers to focus on workforce developing efforts as the population of adults older than 80 is projected to increase by 8 million over the next decade. The average age of a nursing home resident is 79.
