More than nine in 10 consumers plan to spend money at brick-and-mortar locations this holiday season, led by younger generations. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) predicts that holiday sales could increase by up to 4% to a total of more than $1.7 trillion. About 33% say they plan to spend more on experiences such as movie or event tickets, and an overwhelming majority say they’ll spend more time looking for deals or discounts. “Our data signals a selective shopper,” ICSC President and Ceo Tom McGee says,” putting pressure on retailers to connect in new ways and offer memorable shopping experiences.”
