If you’re considering buying an electric vehicle, you may want to crunch the numbers first. The New York Times did just that, comparing the costs of gas, home charging, and hybrid cars in every state to determine where it makes the most sense to buy a car. Places where gas prices tend to be high and electricity prices are low are your best bet. Washington state tops the list for that reason, as do many western states, including Oregon and Nevada. Connecticut, however, has low gas prices and high electricity costs, so it makes less sense there. Same with most of New England and New York. In places where everything is expensive, like California and Hawaii, hybrid makes the most sense. As EV subsidies go away, it’s likely many people will be weighing these options.
