The U.S. Women’s soccer team will receive half of the $16 million in prize money from FIFA for the recent World Cup matches. ESPN reports that the men’s and women’s teams equally share World Cup money under a collective bargaining agreement ratified by U.S. Soccer four years ago amid a fight for equal pay. The site notes that prize money from the 2027 Women’s World Cup will also be split, though it notes that “the first and most obvious point of clarification is that the U.S. women must first qualify.”
