The University of Alabama has suspended two student-run publications because it says they violate federal laws that say DEI initiatives are discriminatory. The university says fashion and lifestyle Alice Magazine and 1956 — a publication that covers Black culture — will no longer publish, citing “legal obligations.” AL.com reports that the university vows to develop a new publication that features a “variety of voices and perspectives” in the next year.  The university also closed its Black Student Union and LGBTQ+ resource center last August. Alice Magazine has published for 10 years, while 1956 launched in 2020.
