Nursing has become a stable career and a way to ensure job security. The Wall Street Journal reports that the profession was the largest job-creator last year, with the median pay for registered nurses almost $94,000 annually, or 89% higher than all other occupations combined. For nurse practitioners and those with advanced degrees, the pay rose to $132,000. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the employment rate for nurse practitioners will skyrocket 40% by 2034. Nurse practitioner is the third-fastest growing occupation in the U.S., behind only wind turbine service technician and solar photovoltaic installer. Almost 90% of nurses are women.
