Only 18% of women across the United States are very confident they will be able to comfortably retire, with the greatest fears being outliving their savings and investments and a reduction of Social Security. The Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies says 85% have had to make work adjustments because of caregiving responsibilities and only 16% say they have “a lot” of knowledge about personal finances. Co-author Catherine Collinson, founding CEO and president of nonprofit Transamerica Institute as well as the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, calls on policymakers to address structural barriers and employers to become more inclusive of women’s needs. “Everyone can and should do their part,” she says.
