After years of growth in women’s representation in corporate leadership, new research shows a slight decline, with little to no improvement in the number of women holding C-suite and senior management positions. Women’s representation fell to 32.9% in 2026, compared with 34% in 2024. However, the report notes that one year of declining numbers does not erase the progress made over the past several years. One factor contributing to this issue is the gender pay gap, which becomes more significant as women advance in their careers; women in high-level positions earn about $0.69 for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. To address this lack of representation, organizations can examine their promotion and retention strategies and identify the factors preventing women from advancing into senior leadership roles.
